Berlin Food Week 2017

Most visitors to Berlin are here for the history not the cuisine but Berlin’s food scene is one of its best kept secrets. It’s diversity and range can be appreciated in its full capacity at the annual festival Berlin Food Week, which kicks off this weekend! Chefs and cooks, restaurateurs and food truck vendors, foodies and every humans who like to eat will all come together to celebrate the glory of Essen und Kochen (German for eating and cooking).

Berlin has all the food possibilities you could wish for – from tasty street food to Michelin star plates. It has classics and weird and wonderful interpretations of the classics. Berlin is also surprisingly multicultural with much of the world’s cuisine represented in the city’s restaurants and cafes.

Berlin Food Week runs from Saturday 14th October until Saturday 21st October at various locations around the city. As with the previous few years, there are specific sections to the programme. The Kaufhaus Jandorf in Mitte will host House of Food this weekend from 10am to 10pm Saturday and 10am to 9pm Sunday. This unique building will house 2 floors of food products from local brands and producers along with tastings and workshops.

Food Clash Canteen showcases the talents of some of Germany’s best chefs from the 17th to the 20th of October. The chefs collaborate to create set menus across the four nights of the clash and diners can eat and enjoy paired wines with the menus for €99 per ticket. Also at Kaufhaus Jandorf.

One of the highlights of Food Week each year is the Städtmenu which helps people discover the local food scene, with a focus on a specific ingredient. This year it is the humble pils mushroom and all menus will include their own imaginative takes on the use of pils in their dishes. This year 65 restaurants will participate, offering set menus for lunch and dinner starting at €19. Our very own Le Faubourg Restaurant is thrilled to once again to be taking part in the Städtmenu and will be offering a 4 course menu for €79  including wine pairings. You can see the menu here (only in German).
