Fête de la Musique in Berlin

Fête de la Musique is a global event held on June 24th and since 1995 has also been celebrated in Berlin. The celebration returns once again this year on Wednesday 21st June where music will take to the streets and dancing and joy will be spread across the city. There will be over 100 official stages and countless unofficial ones, with all live music performed acoustically and unplugged. Of course it’s not a Berlin music festival without some DJs so there’ll be some electronic sounds for those needing the classic Berlin sound. Every year more than 500 cities worldwide take part and almost 300 of them are in Europe alone.

There is so much to be discovered but some of the highlights of this year’s programme include swing, gipsy, folk, Balkan and electric music at Birgit & Bier, classical, traditional music and a choir in the Berlinerdom, house, techno, rave’n’roll at Sage Beach, meditative music and yoga at Beach Club Mitte, Afrobeats at Yaam and so much more.

Best of all, here at the Sofitel Kurfürstendamm we will also be taking part with a special night of chanson, folk and swing parisian flair from one of our favourite regular DJs – Hara Katsiki. Everyone is welcome to join us from 6pm in Restaurant Le Faubourg for a musical journey à la Française!

Performances take place in all the typical places you’d expect plus some non typical ones too. From streets to parks, steps to train platforms, then bars, clubs, cafes and theatres as Fête de la Nuit comes to life. While the daytime is the best time to wander the streets and stumble upon some hidden gems, the nighttime is ideal for seeking out some of the bigger events in the participating venues, which are all visible on the Fete de la Musique map. Entry to everything everywhere is free in the true spirit of a Fête. The event will begin in small and surprise ways at various parts of the city thought the day, but the official start time is 4pm and the outdoor party moves inside from 10pm (due to city noise restrictions).

You can find the complete program here and you can keep track of all the action on the day using the hashtag #FETEberlin. Fête de la Musique gives you the once a year change to enjoy a wonderful day, exploring the sounds of Berlin – from amateurs to professionals – in true Berlin style. Wherever you decide to enjoy the music on June 21st, make sure its live and best of all local. Le Faubourg Lounge Bar os of course the hottest place to be, so come and enjoy cool tunes with Hara and some of the best cocktails in the city.
