MEIN WEIN by Mathias, at Le Faubourg Restaurant

Sofitel Berlin Kurfürstendamm and Le Faubourg Restaurant are pleased to welcome you to our new culinary event – ‘MEIN WEIN by Mathias’. Having started his career in his early teens, Mathias Brandweiner now has the distinction of being Germany’s youngest sommelier. Mathias, along with our Chef de Cuisine Felix Mielke, will be curating ‘MEIN WEIN by Mathias’, a bi-monthly wine evening, starting with the first this month on Thursday April 30th from 6.30pm.

“The reason I created the event was to introduce our guests to the art of drinking wine,” says Mathias. “My selections will often be wines they may not know and wines that are not widely available, so they will have a more exclusive experience.” As head sommelier, Mathias has really made his mark on our wine list with more than 150 individually selected wines now in our collection. Mathias has built good relationships with winemakers and has many great producers in his ‘little back book’ of wine industry contacts.

‘MEIN WEIN by Mathias’ gives him the chance to share his favourite wines with us and gives us the chance to meet the winemaker. Mathias will select a different winemaker each month to feature and guests will have the great pleasure of being able to hear them talk a little about their process and ask questions.

The first ‘MEIN WEIN by Mathias’ event features biodynamic white wines from Odinstal Winery, which is located on 5 hectares of land encompassing forests, meadows, and of course vineyards. Odinstal is in the Rhine River wine making heartland, in the Palatinate region, in South West Germany.

Mathias is particularly excited about the chance for guests to meet winemakers. “Andreas Schumann is the head winemaker from Odinstal winery and he will join us at April’s event.” Mathias explains. “It’s a great opportunity to hear direct from the winemaker how they work, and learn about the craft involved in the production of their wines. It will give our guests a sense of the style and processes used by individual winemakers”.

Chef de Cuisine Felix has created a specific menu to suit the wines and the April menu for the event offers 5 different courses, with each dish carefully chosen to best accompany Mathias’s selection of Odinstal’s wines. All of the wines tasted will also be available for purchase at the event, and for the week after. Special prices will be offered to those in attendance at the event.

‘MEIN WEIN by Mathias’ will be held on Thursday 30th April at 6.30 pm with food served at 7pm. Tickets are €85.00 for all 5 courses including wine. Reservations must be made in advance, so please call Robert on 030 800 999 7700 to secure your place!
